Free printable Christmas cards: Secular and religious holiday greeting cards | Examiner.com

Back in the day, Christmas holiday celebrations were marked with all sorts of delightful traditions. Many have carried over to this generation but others have fallen by the wayside. The tradition of sending and receiving of Christmas holiday greeting cards has waned due to high costs and busier lifestyles. In the 1960s, people sent and received 200-300 Christmas cards in a season. But with stamps at $.50 each and greeting cards at $4 a piece, few people can afford to continue the traditions of sending Christmas cards. Here are two solutions to send affordable Christmas cards. Send Christmas post cards instead of Christmas cards. They cost about half what greeting cards cost to mail. Instead of buying Christmas cards, print your own. Several websites offer free printable Christmas cards in secular and religious patterns. Some are money holder or photo frame cards, too.   Free printable Christmas cards: Secular and religious holiday greeting cards | Examiner.com

Free printable Catholic Advent calendars for a Christian Bible Christmas | Examiner.com

The Catholic Christian season of Advent begins November 30, 2014 and goes for four weeks till Christmas. Many families follow Advent calendars. Some contain candy or prizes to countdown to Christmas. The Daily Mail, on November 24, listed even more lavish commercial Advent calendars prizes: nail polish, gifts, toys, jewelry, cosmetics, even beer!

While there's nothing wrong with a little treat, materialism defeats the Advent purpose: to focus on God. Constantly receiving teaches children (and adults) to be even more aquisitory than they already are at Christmas. If they're getting all season long, where's the magic of Christmas morning? Advent is about preparing for the coming of Christ with acts of charity. Free printable Catholic Advent calendars for a Christian Bible Christmas | Examiner.com

Insect swarm bugs California towns: Biblical plague of seed bugs coats cities - Grand Rapids News | Examiner.com

Leaping locusts, Batman, they're everywhere! Insect swarms bug several California towns, reported the Associated Press on August 21. A Biblical plague of seed bugs coats towns of Inyokern and Lone Pine, California, and it has residents pretty ticked off! I remember in like 1968 when June bugs coated the streets of Newago, Michigan. At least that's what I heard the bugs called (I was 4). You walked and they crunched under feet (eww). I remember may dad had the windshield wipers on to clear the beetles off the screen. I could hear the buzzing and crunching as we drove. They coated the lamposts and flew in your face. Well, reading about Lone Pine's bug problem called to mind that unpleasant experience. Folks say everything in town wears a buzzy, buggy garment of pests that go by the official Latin name of Melacoryphus lateralis. These black and red seed bugs resemble stink bugs and are related to western conifer seed bugs. They're attracted to light and cover lamp posts, windows, doors and any exposed surface they can access. Residents shovel away piles of bug carcasses as if it was snow. And like snow, the bugs come back deeper just as one layer is cleared away.  Pharoah let those people go so this plague will end!
